Quadrowulf Page is Live!

August 28th, 2008

I’ve finally compiled it from Word — word is so lame.

On my own codes I got a 3x speed improvement. — neat!

Anyway — CHECK IT OUT!! The link is up at the top.

Today’s battle with Quantum Mechanics

August 28th, 2008

Below is an excerpt from the Quantum book by Shankar.  It’s a great help!  I am loving the explanations to supplement our Sakurai book, anyway — this was a particularly interesting paragraph, which I had to re-read a couple times.

which expresses the antilinearity of the inner product with respect to the first factor
in the inner product. In other words, the inner product of a linear superposition
with another vector is the corresponding superposition of inner products if the super-
position occurs in the second factor, while it is the superposition with all coefficients
conjugated if the superposition occurs in the first factor. This asymmetry, unfamiliar
in real vector spaces, is here to stay and you will get used to it as you go along.

Richard Dawkins: The Selfish Gene — Post 2

August 24th, 2008

It’s been long overdue, well at least a week or so – because I’ve finished The Selfish Gene, and I need to write about it!

Dawkins hits a home run in the remaining chapters, and successfully enticed me to want to read his self-acclaimed ‘best’ book, “The Extended Phenotype.”

More content coming this weekend.

August 22nd, 2008

I finished Dawkins’ book, The Selfish Gene, as well as a small book called Being Logical which I liked very much.

Started reading 2 more [in addition to my Physics graduate studies textbooks, harhar...]

Look for those posts this weekend!

Cheers!

First Day Of Class

August 19th, 2008

Today is my first day of class at UNC Chapel Hill. I’m glad that the TA Orientation week is over… Phew. Next week I have Orientation week with my Astronomy lab kids. I’m the Teaching Assistant [TA] for two sections of Astronomy 101 lab. We will be observing using the same Meade telescope that I own, so that’s neat.

Today is Quantum Mechanics Classical Mechanics — which I’m actually looking forward to taking. I will post some more once I get Internet in my place, as for now I’m bumming off my neighbor, and they went out of town and the wireless broke in the meantime… so.. I’m without Internet unless I’m in the Physics building…

Tomorrow (Wed) – is Quantum and Electricity and Magnetism (E&M)

Cheers!

Gary’s new kitten (:

August 10th, 2008

I took these shots just before I left my Summer roommate’s house.  Gary got this kitten about 2-3 days before I left.  He’s so cute.

The little guy is really playful and not too shy, though he was on the first day! hehe.

Cheers,

Weirdest Dream Ever

August 6th, 2008

So, I’m pretty sure this is the weirdest dream I’ve ever had, so in any event I want to document it.

So, I had already been awake once to chat with my girlfriend and love Lucie, but I was very tired so she said I could call her back when I woke up.  I set my alarm for another 30-45 minutes after I hung up.

Now, the weirdness.  So, in reality I have a zit on my trap, the portion of muscle that connects the neck to the shoulder.  It’s not anything repulsive, just a red blemish that I noticed yesterday.  With that background information the dream can continue.

***DREAM STARTS HERE***

This blemish on my trap was getting more and more painful as the days were going. I would look at it in the mirror, but I never did anything about it… for some reason.  But it was weird, it was like something was protruding under my skin and there was a very small hole in my skin, like the size of a headphone jack or something. But, it was off my body by let’s say an inch or so.  Finally, I get the nerve to start messing with it to figure out what this thing is and I start pulling and screaming obviously because it’s painful.

This is what was in there:
